Flying Arts is a Queensland icon, a cultural counterpart to the Royal Flying Doctor Service on which it was modelled. Established in 1971 by artist and pilot Mervyn Moriarty on the basis that access to the arts and culture should not be a luxury for those who live in our cities, Flying Arts continues to provide visual arts workshops and exhibiting opportunities for regional and remote communities and, more recently, online training and special residencies for artists of all ages, including young people. As a funded and not for profit service provider, Flying Arts uses its state government subsidy to fulfil its mission 'to provide access to innovative visual arts experiences'. |
